INDIA BUSINESS GROUP POTS PERFECT 147 WITH WORLD SNOOKER

India. The place where polo, chess and modern-day badminton were invented. Add to that list snooker. Now India Business Group (IBG) has joined forces with UK-based World Snooker to help make it a truly global sport. Next year sees the 145th anniversary of the game being founded.

“If there’s one country which can take a sport and create a global brand, it’s India. Just look at what the IPL has contributed to cricket” said IBG’s chair, Lord Patel of Bradford OBE. “At the moment, an estimated 2.5 million Indians play snooker in India.  With its strong historical links to India, where the sport was invented in 1875 in Jabalpur, and with 600 million people estimated to be under 25, it has to be the perfect place for market growth.”

IBG will focus on helping World Snooker increase the numbers who play the game as well as creating more interest at all levels of Indian society. With an existing global television audience of over half a billion, World Snooker wants to bring the game to more people across the world and continue to work closely with the Billiards and Snooker Federation of India (BSFI), the country’s governing body for cue sports.

“We are delighted to be partnering with IBG at a time when both of our respective organisations are hosting world-class events aimed at promoting closer bilateral relations between the UK and India,” said World Snooker’s commercial director, Miles Pearce.  He added “We look forward to working with IBG to help take snooker to new heights across the country and to replicate the success we have had in both Europe and the People’s Republic of China.”

Sir Dominic Asquith, British High Commissioner to India, said:

“I congratulate India’s IBG and UK’s World Snooker on their initiative to promote snooker. I treasure my visits to the Ooty Club, where the framed letter from Sir Neville Chamberlain, setting out the rules of the game, can still be found overlooking a billiard table shipped by Burroughes and Watts from London. The UK and India share a common love for the sport and I was thrilled to see the scores of Indian fans who painted entire stadiums blue during the Cricket World Cup in England and Wales this year. I look forward to watching this initiative further strengthen the Living Bridge between our nations.”

As part of the collaboration, IBG will assist in the promotion of the Indian Open, an annual global professional ranking tournament, taking place in March 2020. This will be a brilliant opportunity for Indians to witness top players of the world who might participate in this event. The Indian Open was first staged in New Delhi in 2013. This year’s tournament was held in the port city of Kochi, with England’s Matthew Selt winning his first world-ranking snooker title since turning pro 13 years ago.

Sourav Kothari wins Reventon Masters in style

So we draw the curtain on yet another great REVENTON SNOOKER event…

In the end India’s SOURAV KOTHARI pipped out local JOHL YOUNGER by 6 frames to 5 in an epic 6 hour final which went right down to the final pink.

Kothari did come back from the depths of a 2-5 deficit to rattle off the next 4 frames as he found himself at the point of no return.
While Kothari had won his semi final match against JOE MINICI relatively comfortably, giving him ample time to rest and settle, Johl was still battling out his semi final match against STEVE MIFSUD, which went for yet another 6 hours despite the 5-2 scoreline.

The “oneforseven” event was also held while the semi finals were being played, with the remaining 8 players taking part.
Despite century breaks by DANIELL HAENGA and ADRIAN RIDLEY, it was West Australia’s BEN JUDGE who took out the event and the $1000 prize.

Kothari also took out the high break prize for the main event with a 124. This along with his other century break saw him take home the tidy some of $16,700. A nice weekend’s work most might say.

REVENTON SNOOKER wish to thank all involved with the event and would like to also congratulate SOURAV KOTHARI on his win, which complimented his REVENTON CLASSIC victory earlier in the year quite nicely.

Over the moon to become Champion of Australia’s biggest Snooker Tournament – The REVENTON MASTERS here in Melbourne. Pushed to a corner in the Final and struggling with simplest of shots, defeat seemed inevitable with my opponent Johl Younger just one game away from victory while I had a mountain to climb. But then, something changed… I had to hang in there which is sometimes the toughest task, but I could do it and from 2-5 games behind, managed to waft my way back and eventually won 6-5.

It feels great to win matches like these which test one’s character.
Just thrilled to be signing off for 2019 on a winning run!!!

Pankaj Advani and Aditya Mehta Pair wins World Team Snooker title

0

MANDALAY (Myanmar): The Indian duo of Pankaj Advani and Aditya Mehta overcame a tough Thai team to emerge world champions in the IBSF World Snooker Team event on Wednesday.

This takes Advani’s world title tally to a phenomenal 23 while Aditya claimed his maiden at a time when his future is being doubted due to health issues.

For Advani, this win has ensured that his name is now there on every IBSF world title on offer.

He had won the world billiards event here last week.

A great start to the final was delivered by Mehta as he drew first blood winning the opener 65-31. However, Advani couldn’t get the Indian momentum going as he lost the second 9-69.

The doubles tie went India’s way thanks to a handy 55 break from Mehta. After a couple of tight frames, India were 3-2 up and needed just two frames in the best-of-nine final to win the coveted title. Advani took over in the second doubles frame and took India one frame away with an aid of a 52 break.

But it was Mehta who sealed the deal for India as he played some of the best snooker in his career and thrashed his Thai opponent 83-9 in the seventh to get his name on the privileged list of world champions.

“I’m absolutely excited to win my first world title. All the years of hard work and struggle has finally paid off,” said Mehta.

Advani too was ecstatic.
“It’s a dream trip for me as I return from Myanmar in under 3 weeks with 2 world championship gold medals and a bronze (which he got in the world 6-red snooker event). I’m over the moon to have won the only missing world title on my list and this win is very special for that reason.

“It’s been a long but satisfying outing. Having to switch from billiards to snooker in a day and to come out on top is a reassurance that specializing in two sports is indeed achievable.”
