Nutcharat survives narrowly against Varshaa Sanjeev; Yulu confirms medal

Nutcharat Wongharuthai of Thailand survived in the deciding frame against Indian challenge Varshaa Sanjeev after winning the deciding frame 4-3 of her quarter final match.

Varshaa was in superb form and kept Nutcharat on edge in the first frame but failed to stop her in second which Nutcharat won on black ball. Alternate frame win after that kept the score level on 2-2 and then another frame win allowed Nutcharat to move ahead 3-2.

Sixth frame was extremely tight where both fought till the last ball and shown exceptionally high-quality safety on last colour balls. The amount of nervousness was clearly visible on both when the constantly missing easy regulation of shots. However, in the end, Nutcharat played a lose shot and Varshaa cleared that to set decider.

Both had equal chance to win the match but two mistakes made by Varshaa dragged her backwards. First she opened the bunch that made situation much easier for Nutcharat and second when she tried a long pot and missed and gave perfect position to Nutcharat.

There Nutcharat took lead of 28 and then played safe. However, Varshaa tried but foul on a well placed snooker once again allowed Nutcharat to score and she won 4-3.

She will now be meeting current World Junior champion, Yulu Bai who reached into the semi final by defeating Hong Kong player So Man Yan 4 frames to 1.

First frame was crucial where both countered each other but at the end, Yulu Bai managed to seal it on black ball 41-36. After that she sent two breaks of 37 and 32 points to rapidly raise her lead to 3-0.

In fourth frame, So Man Yan attempted recovery by scoring break of 42 points and countered Yulu Bai in fifth frame too, but fell short by 10 points and Yulu confirmed her entry for the medals round.

Amee Kamani sent out the defending champion Waratthanun

Former Asian champion, Amee Kamani from India knocked out the defending champion of World Women 6Reds Waratthanun Sukritthanes of Thailand scoring 4 frames to 1 in the quarter final match. With this win she has confirmed her entry in to the medals round.

Amee appeared confident and had shown her intentions from the start of the match where she snatched the frame by scoring 41-25 and then in next made a clearance break of 45 points to lead 2-0.

She was set to take away third frame too but as on a slight chance Waratthanun quickly made a comeback and cut the deficit by 2-1. However, Amee was fully alert and responded again in fourth frame to maintain her lead and then in fifth frame she made another clearance break of 32 points to close the proceedings 4-1.

She will now take on former World champion Ng On Yee of Hong Kong who defeated another Indian player Chitra Magimairaj in straight set of frames 4-0. Though Chitra had chances in second and fourth frames but moreover it was one-sided contest and On Yee won comfortably 4-nil.

Akshay hits first 75 of World Men 6Reds Championship 2019

Indian player Akshay Kumar scored first maximum break of World 6Red Championship 2019. He was playing against Alvin Barbero of Philippines where he compiled the maximum 75 in the fifth frame to win his match 4-1.

Though this maximum break came to him as a lucky one as he missed yellow in bottom pocket but the ball travelled on three cushions to land in the top pocket and break continued.

Akshay was in good control and had taken 3 frame lead when Alvin returned to the game with fourth frame win but after that Akshay scored this maximum to close the proceedings 4-1.

Thailand player Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon was also on run to make 75 in next session match but failed on yellow ball to end the break on 48. He was playing against Nay Lin Htun of Myanmar and went for the maximum by picking each ball precisely. Unfortunately, he hit the last black with slightly extra force and went off-position on yellow. However, he tried but missed.
